September 11 Remembrance run

If there's one race we will remember this season, it'll be this one. It was hosted by Southland Academy on September tenth in Americus, Georgia in remembrance of those who lost their lives on september eleventh, 2001. There was a big turnout of some our region's best Private schools. Teams like the 2010 GISA AAA State Champions Mount de Sales, and third place GISA AAA Champions Tiftarea were there, along with Westwood, Westfield, Deerfield Windsor, Sherwoood Christian, and more.  I won this race by nine seconds with a time of 17:49.  Alex Carico came in eighth with a time of 19:23 for the Varsity boys. Our team came in third overall.  Mary Alice Smoot from Valwood won the High school girl's race with a time of 20:57, and our girls placed sixth overall.  Will Carico ran a 9:44.60 for the 2500 meter run, but lost by 4 tenths of a second to Billy Calcutt just as they were finishing through the shoot.  Truman Wright also came in ninth overall with a time of 10:36.

Southland Academy JV & Varsity Cross-Country Meet

Brookwood school's Cross-Country team ran our first official race on Tuesday, September 6th, in Americus, at Southland Academy.  Both the Middle School and Varsity Boy teams ended up claiming second, and both the JV and Varsity girls claimed third.

I won the race with a time of 17:44 (four seconds away from a PR) along with Alex Carico and Daniel Fortner who also finished in the top ten. Leigh Stauffer finished fourth overall, along with Hunter Avera in the top ten. Will Carico tied for second place with Billy, Noah placed fourth, and Preston turned in a ninth place finish for the JV boys. Julia Hilson and Honey Balfour finished 7th and 8th overall for the JV girls. Coach Grant Stauffer told us that we put on a pretty impressive performance for our first meet of the season, but I think that we're just getting started.
